NAME: Remilia Scarlet
CANON: Touhou
CANON POINT: TH 16.5 Violet Detector.
AGE: 500+. Her physical appearance is like that of a child. While a case could possibly be made based on the rules for petite races, she shall be taking the appearance of a girl in her mid to late teens instead.
BACKGROUND: As a series with a constantly shifting cast and new characters being added with every new game, there is precious little information on some characters. The Scarlet Devil Mansion cast has more then most, but there is still little information to be had about the character's lives before the first game they appear in. Thus despite being a 500 year old vampire there is not a great deal of information about Remilia's life before the first game she appears in. I have a few ideas, but I wish to coordinate with my cast so we are all on the same page. But ever since she first appeared in the sub-dimension called Gensokyo, she was immediately a celebrity. Whenever someone refers to 'the vampire' it is her she they are referring to. The following are events she was involved in on a noteworthy level. It is not a list of every little bit of Touhou related content she is a part of, merely ones where she played a large role and was not a mere cameo.
Embodiment of Scarlet Devil: This was her introduction to the series and the cast. Upon using sorcery to move her mansion and servants to Gensokyo, she promptly decided that she deserved to rule over it, and moved to cover the skies with a scarlet mist to prevent the sunlight from ever being able to reach her again. Like many of her choices, it was one made mostly to bring excitement into her unending life. While her plot ultimately lead to failure, she did not hold a grudge against those who stopped her. Everyone knew who she was now, it was enough for her.
Imperishable Night: One of the few occurrences to truly suit her, this was an event where the night would not end, and a false moon shined in the sky. With no risk of sunlight, Remilia took it upon herself to personally solve the incident rather then leave it to her servants or anyone else. Traveling alongside her personal maid Sakuya, she eventually discovered the culprits. This was one of the few times she personally got involved rather then leave things to Sakuya as she normally does.
Silent Sinner in Blue: A manga rather then a game, this story feature one of Remilia's more outlandish choices. A prime example of her letting herself be talked into things that most would not, she has a magical rocket ship constructed by the suggestion of a powerful youkai named Yukari in order to invade the moon itself. It was not an empty wasteland but instead had civilization on it and while she was defeated in battle, she had her fun so considered it worthwhile.
There is so much content out there it could take awhile to list every little thing she's been involved in, but these are the events she's played the biggest part in. Most of her days are spent relatively peacefully in her mansion, and she normally has her maid Sakuya deal with things rather then get her hands involved personally.
PERSONALITY: The best word to describe Remilia would be self-confident. Calling her arrogant would be just as accurate. As someone who has always had a great deal of power, more so than most of the people surrounding her, she is a person who sees herself as superior. In her home world she lives in a lavish mansion, and has servants who tend to her needs, so she acts as a noblewoman despite not actually having any manner of title.
This pride in herself drives almost every choice she makes, and an attempt to convince her it is unfounded is all but doomed from the start. She's had hundreds of years to convince herself of her greatness, she isn't going to change her mind simply because someone disagrees with her. With how deeply embedded into her mind this pride is, the mere idea of someone claiming she did not deserve to think so highly of herself simply proves, to her at least, that the person making that suggestion is simply lesser and unable to see actual greatness when it is presented to them. Someone below her level of power might literally find themselves being laughed at. Someone who has proven that they have power of their own still won't break her pride easily, but her reaction to them would be less mocking and more hostile. She has little fear, and will gladly call someone out who has something negative to say about her. Even if she were to battle with and lose to such a person, it would only mean they would get the right to be treated slightly more like an equal then others. Centuries of pride don't even get a crack in them with a defeat here and there.
But this aspect of her personality is not entirely negative. Because she presents herself as respectable, it means that despite the fact she is literally a monster, she rarely acts like one. Wanting to be seen as a proper lady means that she is good to her word. She does not want the name Remilia to be attributed to a liar, so she does not back out of an agreement unless there is a very good reason for it. She takes no pleasure in harming people needlessly, considering such base acts beneath her. Hurting a weakling is a degrading use of her powers in her eyes.
While her pride is easily her most prominent personality trait, there is second one that has nearly as much control over her. As an ageless being that will live for all time unless permanently destroyed, she gets bored extremely easily. This desire for stimulation leads her to be capricious and make choices that might confuse others. She has her own way of thinking of things, and will even go so far as to let herself be knowingly manipulated if the end result seems as if it will be interesting. For instance, even if she can tell someone flattering her does not really mean it and is just buttering her up to try and win her over, if the request the person makes isn't boring, she's likely to grant it merely for the chance at a new experience. While there is a limit to how far she'll go, as she isn't about to let herself degraded, her distaste for boredom makes her amenable to most suggestions that don't involve menial tasks. She won't sweep your floors for you, but she will chase down the criminal that stole your diamonds. She won't even keep them for herself once she catches the thief.
To most people she will come across as a demanding, difficult to deal with person at first, but those who actually win her respect and/or trust will find her to be a loyal friend. While this yet again plays into her pride, as anyone she deems worthy to be considered her friend must have a lot of worth, this extreme loyalty to those she cares about is a shining beacon of selflessness in a person almost entirely defined by a lack of it. She is more accepting of criticism from those she respects and while her stubbornness might still make changing her mind difficult, she is actually willing to listen to and take the words of someone who has proven their worth to her seriously. Overall, she comes across as a self-centered aristocrat who demands to be treated with respect. She is willing to give it in return, but only once she feels someone deserves it. It is a little hypocritical, but when you believe yourself to be so important like she does, that sort of thing has little meaning. After all, pointing out that hypocrisy is just another sign someone can't recognize her natural superiority, after all.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
Vampire Abilities: As a vampire, she has the typical strengths and weaknesses associated with them in commonplace fantasy settings. Two noteworthy exceptions are that she is unaffected by holy symbols (and indeed likes to mockingly make some of her own attacks cross-shaped) and that she is not barred from a building simply because its owner has not given her permission to enter it. I can go into more detail if needed, but there is little that differentiates her from your typical fictional vampire. She is extra strong, so fast the common eye has difficulty tracking her movement, and cannot go into sunlight unprotected.
Sorcery: In addition to the abilities her vampiric nature grants her, she is a strong practitioner of the arcane arts. Some of the spells she has access to are fairly commonplace. The flight magic in particular is so common in Gensokyo that even the weaker youkai of the land easily master it. Also commonplace is the ability to project her energy offensively in order to facilitate the aerial duels the series favors so much. While the formal duels in canon prevent lethal force, she could potential shoot blasts of energy strong enough to end a life, as well as topple buildings. I was unable to find a list of all forms of magic she has access to, but in addition to these she was able to conjure a thick enough mist to blot out the sun. She also is able to control bats as familiars as well as conjure and control demons. It will be understandable if her ability to summon is restricted. She herself has been summoned, after all. If this ability is restricted, I would at least like to keep the ability to summon and bind any demons that find themselves in the world. It could lead to interesting scenes with demonic characters, after all. With their players ooc permission, of course.
The Big Cheater Ability: Remilia is said to have to ability to control fate itself. This does not make her invincible, as this does NOT mean that she just gets whatever she wants. Instead, this acts as a sequence of events that lead to the outcome she desires. It isn't a snap her fingers, make thing happen ability. This is why she cannot simply decide that she wins a fight if someone were to suddenly attack her. This is obviously a pretty touchy thing, and a prime candidate for something potentially overpowered. No one is going to accept it if I tell them 'because of a series of events I put into motion 3 weeks ago, whatever I want to happen now does.' Left unchecked, it could be problematic. In the past I have always played this ability as merely an excuse generator. She was in the right place at the right time because 'fate'. She happened to pick the right choice because 'fate'. I've also played it as the reverse of Murphy's Law, anything that can go right will go right. I am fine with completely ignoring this aspect of her abilities, as despite the power it implies it is a fairly minor thing that doesn't even really come up in the games. It is generally only mentioned in outside materials. If you do let it through, I shall use it as stated above, as a reason for interesting things to happen, and not try to tell people they have to accept what I want because of my super special ability.
INVENTORY:
Her signature weapon, the spear Gungnir. If it is actually the spear of the Odin the All-father is debatable, but regardless it is a powerfully enchanted weapon that she favors when engaging in armed combat. Two bat familiars, so she does not have to find new ones. They are normal bats, without any sort of special abilities, but Remilia is able to see what they see and use them to be where she is not.
MOONBLESSING: Sanguis feels the most obvious choice. She's a vampire, after all.
▶ SAMPLES
Many people would find it disturbing and perhaps even frightening to attract the attention of a criminal. It would be a sign their life was about to change for the worse, for it was unlikely that merely saying no would be enough to escape the situation. For most people it would be a chilling encounter they would pay dearly to avoid. Remilia Scarlet, however, was not most people. She had an ego that convinced her there was no possible way for this to end poorly for her. Even without the moon's power swaying her choices, she would be unafraid. What would SHE have to fear from a man like this?
Besides, he seemed so very intent on bribing his way into her company. The promises of gifts and riches did little to impress her, but it was still enough to catch her interest, more so with the influence of the moon making the idea of spending time with a handsome stranger seem all the more appealing. Of course the man would probably be expecting more out of her then merely dinner and polite conversation, but she would worry about dealing with that when it happened.
"You are quite insistent. Do you know nothing of how to treat a lady? Still, I suppose there is something to be said for persistence. It means you are not some manner of coward. Or, perhaps, you have simply not given thought to what it means to ask a vampire to dinner? I enjoy a good meal as much as any other, and I assure you I do not enjoy cheap food, but there is only one thing that can truly satisfy my needs. Is that the kind of meal you are offering to treat me to?"
Her voice is as calm and respectful sounding as can be as she responds, but it isn't sincere. Its a test, a test to see if this man who wants to be her suitor is actually worthy of her attention. Her eyes lock on his as she speaks, her gaze unwavering. If her words and actions are unable to unnerve him, he might prove a decent distraction for the evening, if nothing more. It was obvious his interest was hardly pure, but that didn't even matter to her. All that mattered was that she was entertained, even if that meant going on a date with a criminal. She flashes a smile that shows off her fangs.
"Because I admit I am feeling a little peckish."
